5. Similar considerations apply

to the education scale. Under the

existing arrangements the time-scale

stops at £950; there are three Senior

Masters on £1050, and a higher grade of

Headmaster on £1100 £1300.

The new

time-scale also stops at £950 and it is

not proposed to have in future any

special grade for Senior Masters although

for such Masters the residential

allowance will be increased by £50 a

year. The grade for Headmasters is on

the scale £1000 £1150 + £150

residential allowance. I should be

disposed subject to your views to allow

the salary £1100

£1300 to be granted

on promotion to the grade of Headmaster

in the case of any officers who are

Senior Masters at the date of the

introduction of the new scheme.

As regards the Police, the

present time-scale runs right through

to £1300 without a promotion bar.
